Yesterday I decided to stack all my books in a pile, so that I could have a clear notion of how many books have I purchased (or given to), in the last 2 years, and that I still haven’t had the time to read. Not to mention all the others I’ve already read in the meanwhile.
I’ve always been totally crazy about books, and my dream is to own a little bookshop in another forest in the country. Until then, I’ll be glad to be an avid reader, or as avid as I can be, with the little free time I have. So here’s my list, which I’m going to divide into Portuguese and Foreign Authors.
Foreign Authors (English / American / Spanish)
A Sombra do Vento by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (translated into English as The Shadow of the Wind). If you want to know more about the book and/or the author here’s the link to his website.
Outlander Series: The Fiery Cross / A Breath of Snow and Ashes, by Diana Gabaldon. If you’re into Scotland this is a must read. Seriously!
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I know it has something to do with Dracula.
Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine. This one is about a journalist who goes back to one of her previous lives, in the medieval England.
Stardust by Neil Gaiman (although I had already read it, I want to re-read it in the illustrated version by Charles Vess).
The Complete Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby. The chronicles of a reader.
O Nascimento de Vénus by Sarah Dunant (English Title: The Birth of Venus). I know there’s a painter somewhere in the book…
Portuguese Authors
O Codex 632 by José Rodrigues dos Santos (it will be available in English from April 2008, under the title: Codex 632: The Identity of Christopher Columbus. A Novel
A Fórmula de Deus by José Rodrigues dos Santos (still unavailable in English…) but it has to do with physics and Einstein.
Equador by Miguel Sousa Tavares (In English: Equator – It will be available in July 2008)
Rio das Flores by Miguel Sousa Tavares (recently published in Portugal, so there won’t be a translation all that soon…)
Eça Agora, by several Portuguese author (this story is developed around the most famous characters created by one of the Portuguese genius of the 19th Century, Eça de Queiroz, in is novel The Maias.)
Manhã Submersa by Vergilio Ferreira (unavailable in English. At least Amazon.co.uk doesn’t display it…)
Boca do Inferno by Ricardo Araújo Pereira (one of our youngest talents, not only as a writer, but also as a performer, since is part of the comic group now as Gato Fedorento, in English it would be something like Smelly Cat…)
I guess this is it for now. Bookshops need to get a restraining order against me. Really, I can’t possibly buy more books, while I don’t read the ones I already have. This is a monstrous stack. All I need is time.
Note to self: Buy more shelves for the tree house…
